    But please, make it discreet.
    Nothing is more annoying, when a new dialog pops up and gets the focus, while working.
    You already have an icon in the taskbar, just add a new notification, maybe change the icon.
    Or add support for Growl.

    I like this idea very much, _but_ I would add one little detail.
    The closes server is not always the best server you can get to. Sometimes some other server gives you a much better performance.
    I would add two options:
    - always connect to the fastest server
    - connect to the fastest server in your favorites"
