we are using putty app to ssh into the qnap NAS (ts809).

    now for openvpn client
you might have a vpnclient already on your TS809 but if not install optware (can install it from within the QTS)
then do these commands once you have successfully ssh (putty) into the QNAP.
    command: ipkg install openvpn
    command: ipkg update
    command: ipkg upgrade

typically openvpn executeable is located in sbin/etc/directory.

on the ts-809 we have an /opt/etc/openvpn directory from this example we are putting all our files in there.

    change to the /opt/etc/openvpn

    create a file called giganews-pass.txt
in there put your giganews username on one line then your giganews password on the next line and save it.
    eg:
    username
    password

then create a giganews-vyprvpn.ovpn file with the following content (between the - - - - lines)
as you can see its aiming at remote us2.vpn.giganews.com you can change that to which ever vpn you want from giganews.

    - - - -
    client
    dev tun
    proto udp
    remote us2.vpn.giganews.com 1194
    resolv-retry infinite
    nobind
    persist-key
    persist-tun
    persist-remote-ip
    ca ca.vyprvpn.com.crt
    tls-client
    auth-user-pass giganews-pass.txt
    comp-lzo
    verb 3
    fast-io
    route-delay 2
    auth-nocache
    remote-cert-tls server
    - - - -

    save it.

you can download the ca.vyprvpn.com.crt file from giganews.com direct
at http://www.giganews.com/vyprvpn/ca.vyprvpn.com.crt and save it. dont need to touch it.
    command: wget http://www.giganews.com/vyprvpn/ca.vyprvpn.com.crt
    ----

make sure that ca.vyprvpn.com.crt , giganews-vyprvpn.ovpn and giganews-pass.txt are all in the /opt/etc/openvpn directory.

now you need to load the tun.ko on the t809 its located in the /usr/local/modules directory
    command: insmod /usr/local/modules/tun.ko

to now start your openvpn client to giganews on your qnap nas (TS-809).
    command: openvpn --config giganews-vyprvpn.ovpn --script-security 2

    done. you are connected.

you can run it automatically into the background with this command.
    command: openvpn --config giganews-vyprvpn.ovpn --script-security 2 &

or make an auotorun.sh for it.

once you have sucessfully connect also chmod your giganews-pass.txt to 600 or 400 level.
do this once you know your username/password are working properly.
    command: chmod 600 giganews-pass.txt
